An altruist by nature, Dr. Winnie feels privileged to help those in need. That’s why he decided to join Compass Rehabilitation Center. He appreciates that our physicians, nurses, therapists and medical staff share the same passion for providing excellent patient care as he does. He also sees Compass Rehabilitation Center as a facility that offers comprehensive, state-of-the-art care in one spot, and believes this unique type of environment helps to achieve excellence in patient care. As he put it, “I find the most rewarding aspect of physiatry to be the dedication to both maximizing an individual’s function as well as continuously striving to improve their quality of life. Physiatry places great emphasis on working together as a multidisciplinary team to customize a health care treatment plan for each individual patient, and I believe this is imperative in patient care.”

Dr. Winnie grew up in Marshall, Michigan and earned both his Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology and Cognitive Science and his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Michigan. After receiving his medical degree, he interned with St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor and completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Winnie also completed an Interventional Pain Medicine Fellowship with Georgia Pain Physicians (formerly affiliated with Emory University) in Atlanta. He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as the Subspecialty of Pain Medicine, and is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.

Dr. Winnie and his wife have two children, along with a dog and a cat. Since they both graduated from the University of Michigan, they are avid Wolverines fans and enjoy attending sporting events in Ann Arbor, especially football and basketball. They also like travel, go camping and playing and occasional round of golf when they have some free time.
